Twitter. You love it some days. Hate it during others. Well for the remainder of this post, we love Twitter. Why? Because a DM on Twitter is responsible for what eventually led to us connecting Eric Holthaus, the Founder of Currently, to a $250,000 investment. It started with Eric following me on Twitter. Since he has a casual half a million followers, I was intrigued. He got well known from his weather newsletter. He is a meteorologist. So why would a meteorologist be following me on Twitter? I wasn’t sure, but I followed him back because why not? YOLO.
After observing his feed for a few weeks, I gathered he was actually running his own company called Currently. He wanted to scale what he did himself to the rest of the world. Ok, so we was one of us. A founder. Cool. I wanted to figure out how I could connect with him in an organic way. That opportunity came on on September 21st, 2021. He put out a tweet saying he was invited to join the, at the time, new and exclusive community moderator feature on Twitter. He started a weather community. I asked if I could join, and just like that, I was in.
Soon after we connected, we jumped on a call to learn more about each other. I realized he was raising money for Currently. And asked if I could help with his raise and he said of course. So, I got his info and sent it out to a couple investors. Quite a few took an intro. First was Elizabeth Yin.
Then we got a few more.
Of the intros that were made, the one that panned out the most was the one with Tyler Tringas of Calm Company Fund, fka as Earnest Capital. He and Eric hit it off and after a couple of meetings and eventually Tyler cut him and Currently a $250,000 check.
What I love about this story is that it all started with a simple follow on Twitter. It just shows you how far the rabbit hole can take you if you stay curious. Why was this meteorologist with 500k followers following me on Twitter? Well in hindsight, it was so I could connect him to Tyler! Life works in mysterious ways.
