Networking is important, for obvious reasons. But there is a less common reason that you should network. Network to stay in the information flow. By having lots of conversations and being social, you’ll learn things that never would have been on your radar if you just kept to yourself. You may hear news that gives you a business advantage, or could you get the inside scoop on something big before it breaks and you can selectively share with trusted connections, boosting your own social capital. Show up, not just because who you may meet, but because what you may hear.
I like this a lot. How many times and by who has the news been filtered? The data with the best integrity comes from the horse’s mouth. And good horses only trust other good horses.
