If you’re an insider, people already know you. People can vouch. You can get into rooms. But if you’re an outsider? No one knows you, so you need to help people get to know you. You need to fill out VC applications for funding. Must have an eye popping pitch deck to stand out. Need to be 100% buttoned up. Insiders make us jump through hoops until they feel like they have enough data to extend opportunities to us. But there’s never enough data to compete with a trusted relationship. So those opportunities rarely come. This is the outsider tax.
